I have found a new guilty pleasure – Beveryly Hills, 90210.
Seasons one to six have been added on Netflix! I am through the roof about this. I LOVE this show – loved it them and loving it more now! It’s Bringing back so many memories. The 90′s were different. It’s really amazing to see the similarities in the times, and also the vast differences.
Gotta love it.
PS: I recently finished watching all the season of Grey’s anatomy, had to find something else to pass the time!
All my love,
MsZindzi.

Last night, VH1 premiered “Lala’s Full Court Wedding” (which I did not tune into thanks to LIME’s sh*t basic, lame cable package), a reality show based around the wedding of popular TV personality Lala Vazquez. According to tweets, the most interesting part of the show came when Lala had a sit down with singer Tyrese, he questioned Lala on whether she was ready to be a “wife”, followed by this interesting statement:
“Why are you not hanging out with married women who have been married for a long time? You can’t be in the spirit of being married, hanging out with a bunch of single people. I’m not telling you to get rid of all of your friends but they are not in the same space that you are in…”
I disagree 100% with what Tyrese (once married, now divorced) said and here’s why…
I sincerely believe that no two relationships will ever be the same and that the input and the outcome of any relationship depends solely on both parties involved; their values, beliefs, lifestyle, mentality, etc. So regardless of whether LaLa hangs out with single people, or married people that should not affect her relationship/marriage because what may apply in their personal lives won’t apply in hers. And she, being ready to jump the broom and all, should know better than to be swapping relationship tips with anyone, married or single. She and Carmelo will build and live the kind of marriage they want and see fit for their family.
Some of the things her single friends might engage in she can’t, granted. That doesn’t make her less of a wife or a friend. And besides, maybe the wives around her (basketball wives, given that her husband is a basketball player) do not share the same values as herself. In fact, the DON’T. And she has openly admitted so.
And FYI, LaLa’s celeb “single” friends include the likes of rapper Trina, Destiny’s Child’s Kelly Rowland, Ciara, Ray-J’s sextape co-star and ex and Reggie Bushes ex and socialite Kim Kardashian and Serena Williams. What if they’re merely single by choice? What if they haven’t found the right guy?
Tyrese’s statement implies that only married women have married women mentality, or rather that all married women have married women mentality, and there is nothing more misleading than that. There are some rootless women out there who just want the ring and title and none of the responsibilities that follow.
Is he saying that because her friends are single they’re not on the same page, mentally, as her? BS! If he wanted to take jabs at her friends for who they are or the reps that they have, that would have been a more fair move (no offense, Kim K).
Here’s what Ciara had to say:
“Just because my friend is Married doesn’t [mean] she can’t hang with the single ladies!:) Its ok to hang with single ladies, when your friends are level headed! What matters is the space people are in mentally. Just because you’re single doesn’t mean you have to be wild! The truth is you just have to be around the right company. Regardless. Single or married..”
Thank You.
Like Ciara, I disagree 100% that differing marital status on its own is fair grounds to say that someone is not on the same level, or not on the same page. Differing opinions on marriage and commitment is fair grounds without a doubt, but definitely not marital status on it’s own.
There’s a NEW Housewife in town….Vanessa Williams….
….And I so can’t wait!

First off, I have to admit that I felt a bit robbed. BET hyped this award show so much, and I guess I just had my hopes set very high. Without further due, let’s get right into it!

Queen Latifah hosted the show like a true Diva i.e. she changed outfits about 10 times. All but a few were GORGEOUS! At times I was confused by some of the costumes. She brought out 2 of my favourite comebacks of the night, “Cleo”, her ghetto lesbian character from “Set It Off”, and her rapper persona circa her U.N.I.T.Y days! I enjoyed Latifah as a host but I love her more as an actress, and *whispers: Mo’Nique was a better host*

…Which reminds me, Miss-Late-Night-BET, Miss-I-Swept-Every-Award-Show-This-Year and Comedienne aka Mo’Nique was MIA tonight. I actually missed her presence. Did you? And Speaking of folks that were missing, where in the world was Rihanna, Beyonce and Jay-Z?

You want the Fashion Rundown? Four Words: THERE WAS NO FASHION! Nothing caught my eye or took my breath away. Nothing WOW’d me. Tragic!

El DeBarge, El DeBarge, El DeBarge! I definitely appreciate him as a hit maker in the day and I was definitely grooving during his performance but I felt like his presence, his solo presence was a bit out of place. I was confused. At first I thought he was part of the Prince tribute, then later found out that he wasn’t. He wasn’t an honouree and he wasn’t being honoured – So I really did not understand his purpose. If he was doing a duet, or if it were a compilation of acts doing a ol’skool segment then I’d understand. But I was seriously lost. And to add to my confusion, he came on solo TWICE! At 2 different points in the night…and he premiered a new song, he even has an album on the way too…*blank stare*

The emotional Chris Brown MJ Tribute (peep the video below)…At first I was torn between whether he was crying because he missed MJ (his idol) or whether he was crying because he finally got a shot to redeem himself to the public and that singing “Man In The Mirror” was his chance to say “Stop battling me. I’m sorry. I really am.” In the end I decided on the latter. Last year rumours were spreading like wild fire that he got bumped from the 2009 MJ tribute. And here he was, in 2010, bringing MJ back to us in full force and redeeming himself all at the same time. I think Chris is just extremely happy to get his second chance again. And that’s exactly what this MJ tribute meant for him, a second chance. Chris also picked up an award tonight saying “I let down my fans once. And I will never do it again. I promise.” – This was definitely 1 of the highlights of the night for me. Well done, Chris.

Diddy & Dirty Money represented for the Hip/Hop community tonight with their performance of “Hello, Good Morning”. They brought the energy. I was feeling it, the crowd was feeling it and I definitely think that their performance was one of the best tonight, hands down! Diddy took the new rappers to school with this performance. He taught them how a real performance should go! T.I., Rick Ross and Nicki Minaj also joined Diddy & DM on stage. (Sidenote: Why did production have to OD on the smoke machines?!)

Speaking of Nicki Minaj…*sigh*…I am not happy! Not happy at al. Her entire red carpet look was A MESS! Was that a wedding dress? And a chandelier-type necklace? On the red carpet of the BET awards? Seriously? No. And then to make matters worst she LIP-SYNCED all her performances. Rappers don’t lip sync, that’s just wrong, I couldn’t accept that. And as a fan, and someone who has seen her do better, I am truly disappointed. On a much higher note, Congratulations to Nicki for winning the “Best Female Rap/Hip-Hop Artist” and also a 2nd award for “Best New Artist” (making her and Alicia Keys the top inners of the night, Alicia also snagged 2 awards). The other ladies in the Hip-Hop category were no competition for Nicki anyway, so well done to her. Her acceptance speech (below) was on the mark, triumphant!

Trey Songz, aka Mr-Yum-Yum! I love me some Trey Songz. His voice is amazing, his album is great but lets talk about his BET Awards 2010 performance. He sang “Yo Side Of The Bed”, which I did not know until tonight was highly influenced by Prince’s “Purple Rain”, and did a great job at it. But when he decided to throw in a lil Prince tribute and sing Purple Rain, everything just went down hill. At one point during Trey’s rendition Prince’s facial expression was saying “Is he serious?”…Then again his face seemed to be the same for all the other artist who paid homage to him. He seems like a very humble man, who doesn’t like too much attention. So maybe his facial expressions was his ways of him being…humble. Prince received the Lifetime Achievement Award in all his ULTRA-FABNESS.

Which takes us to Patti LaBelle! She was one of the 4 songbirds who honoured Prince. And as always Miss. Patti did not disappoint. She kicked off her Louboutin heels and was hitting the high notes in true Patti fashion. I especially enjoyed her rendition of “Purple Rain”…she tore the stage up! Another great performance, in my opinion. I LOVE ME SOME PATTI LABELLE!

Not @ BET Awards!
The gospel tribute for Haiti was moving! I always can appreciate gospel music. It takes me away from myself for a minute. Yolanda Adams, Marvin Sapp, Fred Hammond, Karen Clarke Sheard, Kim Burell and Kirk Franklin all graced the stage to perform “Are You Listening?”…oh, and get this, Kirk Franklin actually sang! Yes, really. Lol. He’s a much better Gospel-Hype-Man though!
What did I miss?…

How could I forget? Kanye opened up the BET awards. I was more WOW’d by his stage mountain set up than his performance. Anyway, he opened the show with his new number “Power”….a mellow track that I actually like.
Did you guys catch the Love Jones flashback with Nia Long and Lorenz Tate? I LOVED IT! I’m a big moosh! And I love LOVE! That is all.
Alicia Keys, pregnant belly and all, hopped up on top of her piano during her Prince tribute performance. Prince was looking at her Fiance like, “Are you seeing what I’m seeing?”…She rocked it though.
What did you think of Monica and Deniece Williams’ duet? I did not enjoy it, at all. At times it seem like Deniece was going out of tune. Monica on her own was good though. I missed on-stage-Monica! She picked up the 1st award of the night.
NEXT…Why in heaven’s name did B.O.B damage his “Airplanes” track by inviting Keyshia Cole to massacre it?! To tell you how bad it was, I didn’t even realise what they were singing until about an hour later when someone tweeted it. On another note though, Keyshia has a new black and blonde hair do. Keri Hilson’s has a new one too, a Rihanna-like hair do.
My guy, My new favourite guy, DRAKE performed “FireWorks”, one of my favourite tracks off his album.
Usher performed one of my favourite songs at the moment “There Goes My Baby” – I was in heaven just because that song is a personal favourite but from a performance point of view, Usher can definitely so better.
Tyrese sang a tribute tot he late and great Teddy P.
*Whheeewwww* Looks like I covered everything I wanted to cover. Out of 100, I give it 60. Was it better than last year? No.
Oh and is it just me or was the stage looking a bit too plain this year. It’s usually very fancy and done up…this time around it was just BLAH to me.
Pardon any typos – I’m typing while listening to Drake & Prince. Its nearly 7am and I have not slept all night. I did the best I could.
Look out for a list of all the winners and my BEST DRESSED pick!
Mwaaahhh!
Love,
Ms.Zindzi
