Just like my last four special guests, today’s guest is going to share his story, his art and a little bit about his…*clears throat*…preferences. He’s a aspiring Poet and a budding Lyricist. He’s mighty handsome, he’s incredibly intelligent, he’s ULTRA-talented and he’s the first man to be featured in ‘Conversations’.
Be inspired. Meet Lauren Michael Hercules Holder.
From the intro we have gathered that you are a talented artist; poet & lyricist. But aside from that who is Lauren Michael Hercules Holder? Side Note: I think you have one of those SEXYILY MASCULINE names that exudes confidence, I love it!
Well, I currently attend SGU where I major in Business Management with plans to further my studies in Actuarial Science. However, my true passion lies in Greek Mythology which strongly influences my poetry and overall approach to life. As for my name, well *chuckle* I have only my mother to thank for that so I’ll let her know that you like it.
I have been dying to ask you this for years…Where, What, Who did ‘Logz’ derive from? Inquiring minds would like to know.
Logz is derived from Logarithms and came about because when I attended high school I happened to be really good at Math, especially Logarithms. After that the name just stuck.
Ahh, I see. – When did you realize you had this beautiful talent?
Well to be honest, I never have and to this day still don’t consider it a beautiful talent. I just enjoy expressing my feelings, emotions, whatever comes to mind in that medium. The first time I decided to show my work was about four years ago on my facebook page. I wasn’t sure that it was great or anything, I just wanted to post something that had great meaning to me. It was actually one of the first poems that I wrote.
And how many pieces have you written since then? And do you have a favourite?
About one hundred and fifty *laughs* . My favourite would have to be ‘Two Tears’ which was about a break up that I was going through at the time. It was the first time that I really put my emotions to paper and will always stay with me.
Oh yeah, I’ve read that one! – I have to admit I have a favourite Lauren Michael Hercules Holder poem, “My Morning Pleasure”. And I quote: “I swirl it around/ and bring it to my lips/ it passes across my tongue/ and stimulates my soul…” – How did this poem come about?
*grin* *Blush* Thank you. Anyone reading that excerpt might get the impression that it’s a about something completely different to the intended meaning. *wink* But basically it was just me expressing the intense feelings that I have for Nesquik (a brand of chocolate milk) and the way that it makes me feel in the morning.
Mmm, If anyone knows about Nesquik is me. I love it! - My readers know this but Imma say it again: I do not like to read. I read but it’s not my favourite thing to do so I prefer to listen to the music/spoken-word of poets and lyricists like Floetry, Jill Scott, Lauryn Hill, Maxwell and the list goes on. Are you more into poetry books or do you prefer it music/spoken form? Or both? And Who are some of your influences?
I find that the books offer a greater oppotunity to personalize the works (allow you to be more creative with them) than hearing someone else deliver it in the way that they imagine it. My main influence and the reason why I started to write in the first place is Tupac Amaru Shakur.
I know you have some of your poems on Facebook. But what’s next for you – A website? Performances? Maybe a book? Maybe music? Spoken Word?
For now I’m just content to express myself wherever and whenever possible. I haven’t thought that far ahead really.
I interviewed Nicole Hector, who is also an aspiring poet, and I asked her this next question and she gave very sound advice about being passionate and dreaming big – but I wanna hear what your advice, What advice would you give to aspiring poets?
Just keep writing and write about anything. Honestly I’ve written about oranges, texting while driving, even chocolate milk! You just have to keep at it, keep expressing yourself even when you’re not inspired so that when the time comes and the inspiration is there, it makes it all the more easier.
I second that advice! - I know you are a Rap/Hip-Hop fan and a fan of music in general. Now the hip-hop community has been abuzz about Nicki Minaj for some time. Personally, I don’t understand the hype and I know a lot of people see her as just the ‘sex symbol’ of the Young Money clique. And we all know sex sells! I wanna know what you think, tell us what you think of Miss Nicki Minaj…
I don’t know her/her music that well so I can’t judge but she seems to be getting alot of attention so there must be something there. *laughs*
LOL! Like I said, sex sells! – Still on music, There are people who believe that certain artist i.e. Rihanna, Jay-Z and Kanye West have ‘sold their souls to the devil’ in return for the huge success. And just recently Kanye West admitted to it in a freestyle. I think it’s all BS, but from when the celebs themselves are “openly admitting” to it, it becomes harder to ignore. Do you buy any of this? Do you think it’s a matter of ‘let’s give them something to talk about’?
Honestly, it’s their business if it is indeed true that they’ve sold their soul. Personally, I wouldn’t but to each his own.
Indeed. – Now I know you and your family are very big on celebrating X-Mas. Share with us your favourite moment(s) of the season and your resolutions for 2010?
Spending time with my family. Especially being able to spend time with my sister who I haven’t seen in a while.
As for resolutions, I don’t see the point in waiting for January 1st to make them. If you have your mind set on doing something, do it.
Random question but do you have any guilty pleasures on TV…What do you like to watch a lot of?
House M.D. I like his cynicism, bluntness, the way he thinks and in the end gets the job done.
YES! See I now I remember why I love you. YES. That’s one of my favourite shows too. I love House! - Describe your ideal woman for us.
My ideal woman is like my blackberry: accessible, easy to communicate with, fun to play with, a pleasure to be with and most of all more than enough applications to occupy my time.
Like your Blackberry? SMH. - Just for the record, Are you single?
Sorry to say but no, I’m off the market.
And how is your relationship? How’s Mrs. Lauren Michael Hercules Holder? What do you love most about her and being with her? For the record, We’re not asking for juicy bedroom stories but if your givin’ ‘em we’ll take ‘em, thank you!
My relationship is going really well. She’s easy to talk to, fun to be around *pauses* come to think of it…she is my blackberry!
Comparing your woman to your blackberry is not nice! SMDH. - Describe the BEST KISS you’ve ever had? You best think carefully now, you do not want any problems with the Misses. Lol.
*smiles*
*side-eye* - Anywaaaays, I know I said we didn’t want any juicy bedroom details but I just have to ask, Have you ever tried whipped cream in the bedroom?
*laughs*
Come on! At least answer this one? You’re killing us here. Us ladies really wanna know – Have you ever had sex in a public place?
Have you?
Nope. Never have and I pride myself on never having to. I ain’t scared to admit it. But Ok, you officially killed the spicy deets for us! Lol.
We know who you are, we talked about your talent, we know what kinda woman you like, we know you love your BB, we tired to got all up in yo’ biz, but now it’s time to ask my favourite question (believe it or not – lol). If you were chosen to be a Philanthropist for a day, just one day, what cause would you be generous to and why?
Given the current situation in Haiti, I would do everything in my power to get them through that terrifying experience.
I know. Me too. Any other time I would have said Domestic Violence, or Poverty, or AIDS but the situation in Haiti is very dire. They’re in a state of emergency and they need ALL the help they can get. I definitely admire you more, for that answer.
Well Mr. Lauren Michael Hercules Holder, I especially enjoyed interviewing you because you’re my 1st male special guest and you have a very masculine and strong aura about you – I love it! I especially loved your Haiti answer and so with that said, Thank you for sharing a part of you with us here at MsZindzi.com, I really appreciate it. In some ways this helps you spread word about your talent, so Thank You for choosing MsZindzi.com. I wish you much success and prosperity for this new year and Imma tell you just like I told all my readers at the start of the year, OWN 2010 baby! Make it yours! – Any final words?
Thank you for this wonderful opportunity to be part of your website and also your first male guest.
