Hey Beautiful Ppl,
Today I’m gonna do something a little different to what I usually do on my blog.
A few weeks ago I decided to add a touch of newness to my blog – That’s when the idea of ‘Conversations’ was born.
‘Conversations’ is just as the name implies, a conversation, with someone with a talent to showcase, or a story of some kind to share and you can expect a ‘Conversations’ post at least once a month, some months it may be twice. Enjoy! – Ms.Zindzi

Nearly a year ago (if memory serves me right) an old secondary school classmate and friend sent me one of her poems that she had recorded and I was WOW’d. However, it never occurred to me until about a month ago, when I had yet another listen, that this particular young poet and friend would be my first interviewee.
After granting me the exclusive to her ULTRA-Sexy poem ‘Kisser of the Year’ (press play above), she also granted me an interview I will never forget!
Be inspired. Meet Nicole Nikki Hector.

Ms.Zindzi: Tell me and my Beautiful readers a little about yourself? Who is Nicole?
Nicole: I’m 20 years old and I have a passion for law and politics so look out for me in the news soon. Lol. Outside of that I love to write. Writing is more than a mere hobby to me, especially poetry. I often tell people poetry is my sanity. To me there’s nothing more relaxing, peaceful and satisfying than being able to paint with words what one is feeling, thinking or going through in a manner that just about anyone can relate to. I’m a Research Assistant to Grenada’s ambassador to the EU and Belgium, as well as a Bartender & active member of Deja Vu Lyrx Poetry Club and my study of International Politics commences in just a couple months. Essentially I’m a goal oriented, multi-faceted young woman with an intense passion for life, writing, law, politics, family and just about anything I decide to do.
WOW, WOW and WOW again. I am blown away. You have a lot going on. And that’s good, ‘cause I love busy ppl. So tell me about being a Research Assistant. What does that entail? Enquiring minds would like to know.
The job really isn’t much more than the name suggests. I basically do whatever research he [The Ambassador] needs done, be it for a book he’s writing, a proposal, or advice. Prior to being ambassador he taught at S.G.U [St. George’s University] and was also a Business Consultant and I was his R.A. then as well. I find myself going through archives in the Public Library, meeting and talking to people I wouldn’t originally get the opportunity to meet with or talk to and overall learning more than one would learn in school which I think is definitely an asset.
Ok, Congrats on your job Nikki. It sounds interesting and time consuming and important all the same. You mentioned that you love to write, particularly poetry – How many poems have you written? Give us a rough estimate.
My job is all three Z but I love it. Thanks!!! Yes, I do love writing and poetry in particular I’ve actually written quite a number of pieces, well over 100 by now.
Very impressive. When did you start writing poetry? What motivates you to write?
Well I started writing in college. I think a combination of my love for literature, which was one of my majors in college, the opportunity I have to share my poems through Poetry Nights and the way writing makes me feel motivates me to write.
Ms.Zindzi: You go girl! I admire poets so much, especially since I cannot write a poem even if my life depended on it. LOL! – Who are your influences and who do you look up to most?
Nicole: Thanks hun. Well I absolutely loooove most of the poets on Def Poetry Jam. However, my all-time favourite poet is Maya Angelou. She’s also one of my role models and I have to say she’s a great influence. And though she’s not a poet, I look up to my Mom the most for reasons any daughter who has a great relationship with her mother can cite.
Oh yes, I can definitely identify to the wonders of a great Mother-Daughter relationship. My mother and I are very close as well. I’m always mentioning her on my blog. – What advice would you give to aspiring poets and aspiring influential law-makers as yourself?
Well a lot of things come to mind. What I will say though is that if you’re passionate about something keep doing it, if you aspire to do something, go for it no matter how much people try to discourage you, no matter how much you’re shot at or pulled down keep at it. Dream big but remember achieving your goals means hard work and sacrifice! In terms of poetry let me just add that it’s something that should come from inside. I’ve studied literature and learnt the styles of writing as well as the rules and types of poems, but if it doesn’t come from the heart it won’t be as great as if it does.
Sound advice from a talented young woman who has her head and heart in the right place. So you’ve told the beautiful readers about yourself, about your life and about your art. Now it’s time to switch it up a little bit and talk some Girl-Talk. – What are the biggest turn-offs in the opposite sex or of a date, or just generally?
Girl there are so many turn-offs!! However, disrespect is a MAJOR turn-off and I will NOT tolerate it. Others include: bad breath, too much body hair (chest, underarms and ummm, elsewhere. Lol), lack of direction in life or goals. I could go on and on.
AMEN SISTAHH…I feel you on the lack of direction! Most guys today don’t have the slightest clue what they want to do with their lives. Now since we know what turns you off, tell us what turns you on? What is sure to win Nikki over?…and While you’re at it, tell us what you look for in your guy?
Hmmm well let’s see. I’m a sucker for respectful, goal-oriented guys that I can have intellectual conversations with. It’s a major turn on when a guy can hold a conversation about something outside of sex, cars or some movie or song. Lol. What I look for in my guy? – Wow – Ummm well a guy who has a great relationship with his mother and sisters (if he has those) is a plus, a sense of adventure, someone who knows who he is and what he wants or where he wants to be. He doesn’t have to be all out mushy but I appreciate little romantic gestures, and guys who can be intimate without jumping my bones. I’m also a sucker for someone who acts more than he speaks. Again, I can go on and on. Lol. The guys reading must think it’s hell hard to please someone like me.
I’m really liking what I’m hearing, and I’m sure the readers are too. So now we’re gonna try to get all up in your grill…Have you met such a person yet? DETAILS!
Hmmm. Well you know how sometimes you meet someone and you sooooo want them to be ”that guy” that even if they’re not you make excuses for them and you look past certain things and even dwell on some things so that it seems to be a bigger deal than it really is? Lol. I’ve done that so much and I was actually at the point where I didn’t even want a relationship or meet new guys. Lol. Let me stop prolonging this – YESSSS I have [met such a guy] and I’m loving it. It’s not often these days you meet a guy that wants to take things slow. He’s great!! Christian, Opens doors, he’s intelligent, has an extensive vocabulary so I’m not limited to the usual everyday slangs. Lol. Ummm he’s so respectful and caring and thoughtful. He notices all the small things, he ”Acts more than he speaks” when it comes to how he feels and what he wants and he knows where he wants to be in life. He’s great. Lol. we’re still in the “getting to know each other/dating phase” so we’re not ”going steady” yet but it looks like it’s headed in that direction. Ladies chivalry ISN’T DEAD! OH and there IS a Prince Charming out there. He may not be Mr. Perfect but he’s close, real close.
Ooooh. Listen to you! I can tell from your words that this guy is really and truly significant. You’re a really lovely person, so he’ll be damned if he lets you slip away. – Sorry to change the mood, I know we went all lovey-dovey there for a sec, but any break up advice for us ladies? Give us some ‘How to Get Over a Break-Up’ tips.
Well I’m hoping he doesn’t let me slip away. Lol. Thanks hun! Breakup advice, Lol, well I tried the rebound-guy thing, that is so NOT a good road to go down. Let’s see…eat ice cream or whatever you like eating, hangout with your girls, talk to someone be it your mom or bestie, do stuff you love doing but didn’t really do much with your ex: clubbing, movies at home or at the cinema, have lots of ”me time” and ”fun time” and please, please remain optimistic. It’s really NOT the end of the world. Someone better WILL come along. Oh, and look great and feel great every chance you get. Lol. It makes them mad as hell. Lol.
Hahaha! So true, you gots to let them see you living good. Let your ULTRA-Fabness say to them “Eat your heart out, you coulda had allllluh this!” LOL! – And my final question to you, where do you see yourself in the next 10 years?
Yep yep!! That’s right girl!! In the next 10 years I see myself with 2 degrees, working very intimately with law and politics trying to improve the judicial system in Grenada and the Caribbean region, I would’ve worked in Europe for a while, working on the business plan for my own business, very involved in some charity or the other, owning my own home & land, and maybe engaged. Lol.
There’s just no stopping you and I’m sure that ANYTHING you put your mind to you can do. – Nikki it was a PLEASURE interviewing you. I had fun, this interview thing is actually cool. There’s so much more I want to ask you, but we’ll save that for another interview. We’ve known each other for a very long time, but I have to admit I did learn some things about you today. Thanks for allowing me to interview you, I’m sure all my beautiful readers will find it very useful to them in their occupational aspirations or useful in their personal lives, and this interview is especially useful for up and coming Artists (yes, I call ALL creative ppl artist. Poetry is an ART.) like yourself. I’m glad I did my first ‘Conversations’ blogisode with you, I couldn’t imagine doing it any differently. I LOVE the ‘Kisser of the Year’ poem. Thank you for giving Ms★Zindzi.com the exclusive on that one. I love it! I think you are ULTRA-Talented so knock ‘em dead, I’m rooting for you. Much success and happiness in whatever you do sistah.
