From Oct. 2008 – Ms.Zindzi’s BIG Health Challenge!

Ms.Zindzi’s tryna get her body in check.

The mistake I’ve made in the past is equating healthier living with weight loss, which isn’t always the case. So if I would start eating healthy and not lose weight I’d give up because I’d think ‘Oh, I failed. I give up!’ when in fact I was doing what I had actually set out to do, eat healthy. So I’ve changed up my thinking a bit – eating healthier doesn’t necessarily mean that I have to lose weight – I know I’m ready to conquer this challenge.

From the 1st of October, I will begin my quest for a healthier lifestyle and healthier body. December 29th, my special day, will mark my last day for reporting on the ‘Ms.Zindzi’s BIG Health Challenge’. After which I will post random updates as to my progress. I am really looking forward to starting my new routine and making this a lifelong commitment. I’m actually very excited, can’t wait to start.

I know you guys will enjoy reading the weekly updates because every now and then you’ll get to laugh at the weird or boring things I have to eat and I’m also gonna post easy, simple and healthy recipes that I know you guys will LOVE. Also, I’ll be posting motivational tips to encourage other ‘Get Healthy!’ people like myself. You’ve got to love ‘Ms.Zindzi’s BIG Health Challenge’ because you get to know EVERYTHING! And I mean, everything even my weight, not even my momma knows my exact weight! LOL!

Now, I’d be lying if I said this was my first attempt to get into shape and get healthy. I’d also be lying if I said I haven’t given up on more than one occasion. However, the good news is, I have succeeded once before and I want to succeed at it again.

What’s different this time is that I have you guys to share it with, and to get support from. So wish me luck! And who knows I might even inspire somebody to ‘Get Healthy!’.

xoxo, Ms.Zindzi

Thank You, World!

Over the past year and four months I’ve been shaped quite a lot by a number of different factors in my environment, as is the case with just about everybody. I mean, it’s only natural that things in our environment affect our lives. When I picked up blogging as a hobby, I did not imagine that I would be at it this long because I used to be the type to get bored easily or give up really quickly. But I stuck to it, and look, now I’ve got avid readers. You will never know what it means to me to hear someone say ‘I read your blog’ or see someone quote my words. It is an indescribable feeling that you must feel to know, there’s no imagining it.

Wordpress has given me one of the greatest opportunities in my life thus far. I wanted to say ‘Thank You!’ and ‘Job Well Done!’ for without their huge talent and innovation BTJ (BeautyTheJourney) would not have come to life. I am proud of myself for starting BTJ. I put my all into it, just as with anything else I do. And I love it. Life has become less chaotic and less complicated since I made this move. I feel like my words can make a difference, like my thoughts can help somebody. I say this all the time, and I’m gonna say it again – “If at the end of the day Ms.Zindzi puts 100% into something and only one person responds, I know I’m doing something good, something right!”

To the world my reader may be one, but to me, my reader is the world!

I’d like to give a personal shout out to my Aunty Joan Gilbert: love you tons, you are one of the reasons I took time out to write this so thanks for reading! :)

Xoxo, Ms.Zindzi.

Quick 1

Hello world!

How’ve you guys been? Has the Back to School tips proved helpful? Hmm, Let me know.

Ms.Zindzi feels on top of the world and on top of her life. And can I tell you, the feeling is GREAT!!!

Everything seems to be working in my favour thus far, and I like that. I’ve had a lovely weekend. University is re-opening soon. Very soon I’ll be busy beyond belief, won’t have time to sleep or for myself. But guess what?? I’m soooooo ready. Gosh!! I’ve been un-busy for far too long now. Soon I’ll be working, schooling, socialising – *ahhhh* can hardly wait!

I’m a soft and smooth R&B mood. Just had a shower and now I’m kicking back under the covers to some 80s tunes. Air Supply, Natalie Cole, Toto, Chicago, Starship and others are on BLAST at the moment. I’m loving the Oooohh’s and Ahhhh’s. To me those are the best parts of the 80s love tunes. They were real.

Anyway guys, just checking-in real quick.

Love you guys!

xoxo, Ms.Zindzi

B2S Essentials, Pt. II

Last night I gave you guys the scoop about what you will be needing for study-time, kitchen stuff, documentation, for the ‘great’ outdoors, for healthcare and for your bathroom (my personal favourite part of my flat, by the way!). So today, I’m gonna share some more tips, but this time I’m gonna focus on house-keeping, electricals, leisure and, most girl’s favourite, decor/style.

7. House-Keeping – Febreeze, gotta keep the clothes and fabric smelling goooood. Laundry bag, it is so not cool to have your dirty laundry all over your room cause then they just might get mixed up with the cleans one – a BIG NO NO!! Airer/Clothes Horse,it saves you money on drying your clothes (especially if your university charges for drying –like mine did! *..Sigh!*). Dustpan and brush, washing powder/liquid/tabs, cleaning products (Gotta keep my shower sparkling!) and last but not least, a door wedge (nothing I hate more than the sound of a slamming door).

8. Electricals – Alarm clock (most of us already got this on our cell phones/smart phones) for the days we really don’t wanna wake up, calculator is really needed (it’s useful for assignments but we also gotta keep up with finances), desktop computer or laptop (can’t live without it!!!!!!!), CDR’s, USB Flash Drive/Pen Drive, printer (Note to self: pick one up), mobile phone and charge (E-sential), MP3 player (iPods rule), TV (don’t forget to get the TV licence – Do I even have one? Hmmmm), and of course, electrical bars (if you have a million and one gadgets like I do, you’re so gonna need one).

9. Clothing – A pimp and diva’s favourite, the dressing gown/bath robe. Slippers, T-shirts, jumpers, jackets, underwear (cotton all day everyday), and socks (colourful ones are the best).

10. Leisure – Board games (like Monoply and Scrabble) are good for enjoying with company and a football/basketball or even.

11. Decor/Style – Posters, photos of friends and family, rugs, lava lamps, cushions/beanbags, a throw, stuffed toys, potted plants and blankets.

12. Bedding – Colourful or earth toned sheets, pillow cases, duvet covers are excellent. But don’t forget to pick up pillows and a duvet before buying the bedding. (laugh)

Now that just about covers everything essential…Just for the heck of it I’ve also included a few extras:

Alcohol (It’s a privilege, be RESPONSIBLE!!)

Sweets or biscuits

Extra Storage containers

DVDs/CDs

Overnight bag for weekends away

Loose change for washing / vending machines

Matches for those sexy candles that are much needed for decor.

Fan

Ok, that just about wrapped it up. I hope you liked it and found it useful. Best of luck with the new year ;-)

B2S Essentials, Pt. I

Since I decided to change the focus of my blog a bit (see previous post), I created a little Back 2 Skool checklist that will prove really useful for the new academic year at university/college.

1. Documents – If you’re just starting out at university you’re gonna need to carry along with you things like your birth certificate, your passport, your examination certificates or results, National Insurance number, bank details, financial support documents, university acceptance letter, and believe me the list goes on. I HATE carrying loads of paper behind me, but we gotta do what gotta do.

2. For your Kitchen – Most Freshers move into dorms/halls in their first year. If this applies to you then listen up! You’re gonna need pots and pans, glasses, mugs, cutlery, plates, bowls, paper towels/kitchen towels, may need a kettle, a microwave, recipe books are A MUST HAVE (you’re gonna have to learn how to cook!), foil, cling film, and the list goes on and on. Even if you’re not moving into dorms or halls and you’re moving into your own place, you’re most probably gonna need these stuff as well, so I hope you took note.

3. For Studying – A desk lamp, notice board (to stick post its or important notes), a diary or planner (can you say ESSENTIAL?! Note to self: Get a new one!), dictionary & thesaurus, note pad, printing paper, A4 folders, pens, pencils, highlighters, scissors, stapler, hole puncher, sticky labels, Post-Its, paper clips are all needed when you’re going off to university.

4. For the Outdoors – An UMBRELLA (especially if you are in the UK *…Sigh!*)

5. Health Care – Multi-Vitamins, painkillers, condoms or the pills (gotta stay safe!) and cold/flu meds.

6. For your Bathroom – You are definitely going to need a bath mat, bath slippers, shower gel/soap, towels, basket to store shower supplies ( so needed), toilet paper, toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, lotion, perfumes, mist, air freshener (don’t act like your sh*t don’t stink pls!!), comb, razors, hair removal cream, lip balm (essential).

Oh my goodness! This list is mucho long. Didn’t even realise how long it was gonna be or how much time it would have taken. Hmmm, Well ppl it’s Ms.Zindzi’s bedtime. Will drop in tomorrow to share some more essentials. Yes, there is more.

Part II coming soon!

xoxo, Ms.Zindzi.

From Oct. 2008 – UniLiving with Ms.Zindzi

After having a lengthy chat with my friend, Kendell, I have decided to take ‘Beauty: Ms.Zindzi’s Way! ‘ in a whole new and exciting direction.

From October my blog will be your official guide into my 2nd year experience at the University of Bedfordshire here in the UK (thousands of miles away from home & family). Each week I will be posting entries that will feature the highs and lows of university life -life on and off campus, the lectures, the lecturers, the students, the assignments, the exams, the activities, the events – the entire experience.

As with everything I get involved in, there is a purpose. I’m doing this as a source of hope and inspiration for other young people, like myself, who might be indecisive about whether they should go off to college/university and for the people who are currently at university or college and are thinking of giving up. University life doesn’t have to be a drag, if you have the right mix of friends like I do, it’s possible to have fun too.

This blog will be your #1 source for everything Back2 Skool & everything Ms.Zindzi. I promise, there will be no holding back. You guys are definitely in for a treat. So be sure to check in with me each week, starting from October (exact date TBA), to see what’s happening on my campus!

Try it!

“Throw caution to the wind for once – DAMMIT!” –Ms.Zindzi

Taking chances can be ever so daunting, believe me, I KNOW! Sometimes it may seem as such a monumental risk. But really, what are our options? Take chances or regret? No one wants to regret. I don’t regret anything I’ve done, but that’s for the next entry. This entry focuses on taking chances/risk taking.

If we’re really discontented about our life or a particular situation our only option is to take a chance to regain happiness.

From the very moment our actions become habitual we know that there’s a problem. We become somewhat secure – and honey, that ain’t good. Let’s look at what’s unhealthy. 1. Staying in a mismatched relationship. 2. Turning up to work day after day to an unfulfilling job. Now, if you fit into one of these situations you know you’ve got a problem, a BIG one. Following your heart and taking a chance or two every now and again, if not always, could prove really smart – try it.

Consider this: I am able to sit here typing on this incredible piece of machinery AKA computer, have a stable roof over my head, have electricity at my disposal all because people, throughout the course of history, have been taking chances. Like I said, taking a chance or two every now and again, if not always, could prove really smart – try it.

Can you imagine where we’d be right now had brave and inventive people not taken chances? Hmmm, I can. We’d probably sitting in caves, carving away on slate – if we’d even be so lucky to have slate. Or we’d probably be hunting and gathering? (like, who does that?) (Slight laugh!)

One of the most important parts about our life is being able to take chances, it should be so fun and exciting. Or would you prefer boring? That is, would you prefer spending your days repeating the same actions day after day, month after month, year after year? Or would you rather trying something you have never tried before?

Don’t be frightened to take steps in a new direction, especially if your life hasn’t been going anywhere. Remember this, it’s the risks we take in this life that gives our life meaning and gives us true satisfaction.

We’re not getting any younger people, we wanna be able to look back at all the opportunities life posed say ‘I came, I saw, I conquered’.

It’s ok to play it safe some of the time but taking risks is something that fills you with empowerment and provides you with wisdom on your personal journey.

We regret most the chances we never took.

Here’s to a bold and exciting new chapter, my people!!

xoxo, Ms.Zindzi
